Where AI engines get product recommendations

The engines don't browse your landing page and weigh your testimonials. They synthesize what the internet says about you — and for product recommendations, Reddit threads are the single most-cited source across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. Google AI Overviews lean on Reddit too.

Which means: every thread where your product is mentioned positively and specifically is GEO training data.

What actually moves the needle

Comparison threads. "X vs Y" and "alternatives to Z" threads are citation gold. When your product is named in the answer alongside context ("good for solo founders because…"), engines learn the association.

Specificity beats frequency. One mention with detail — "we use it for Reddit lead gen, it scored posts by buying intent" — outweighs ten bare name-drops. Engines extract reasons, not just names.

Measuring it

Ask each engine your buyer questions monthly: "best tool for X", "X vs Y", "how do I do Z". Note whether you're mentioned, and who is instead. That's your visibility score — track it like you track rankings.
